During the 8 and 9 March 2025 SAT Weekend, some students found their tests submitted automatically before their time ran out. College Board blamed an incorrectly configured setting in Bluebook, which it says it fixed early on 8 March. It did not say how many students were affected. School-day testing in the March and April window was not affected.

Key facts

  • Test date 8-9 March 2025
  • Problem Tests auto-submitted before time ended
  • Remedy Full refund plus free registration voucher
  • Makeup 22 March (23 March for Sunday testers)

What College Board offered

  • A full refund of registration fees, including the international fee, plus a voucher for a free future SAT registration.
  • An emailed preview of the 8 March score on 14 March for those whose tests were cut short.
  • A makeup sitting on 22 March, or 23 March for Sunday testers, where centres could open. Taking the makeup cancelled the 8 March score.
  • 8 March scores were not sent to colleges unless the student asked for them.

Students who lost time after being told to restart Bluebook during the test were also offered a makeup, a refund and a voucher. Students who had cancelled a score because of the fault could ask Customer Service to reinstate it.

What changed afterwards

College Board said several independent teams would now check the setting and that it was building automated tests and alerts for this and similar settings.

What this means

If something goes wrong with Bluebook on test day, tell the proctor at once and note the time and what you saw. Report it to College Board soon after the test, and read any emails from College Board carefully, because remedies such as makeups often come with short deadlines and a choice between keeping one score or another.
