GMAT drops eight-attempt lifetime limit; five a year still applies
GMAC has removed the lifetime cap of eight GMAT attempts. Candidates can still take the exam at most five times in any rolling 12-month period, with at least 16 days between attempts.

From 1 July 2024 GMAC returned to calling its test simply the GMAT Exam. The format and the 205 to 805 score scale of the Focus Edition stay the same.

Old GMAT retired: Focus Edition only from 1 February 2024
The previous GMAT, now called the 10th Edition, was last offered on 31 January 2024. From 1 February 2024 the Focus Edition is the only GMAT, and old scores stay valid for five years.

The GMAT Focus Edition went live on 7 November 2023: 64 questions in 2 hours 15 minutes across Quantitative, Verbal and Data Insights, scored 205 to 805, with no essay.

Registration for the GMAT Focus Edition opened on 29 August 2023, with the first exams on 7 November 2023. The previous GMAT stayed bookable until early 2024.

GMAC said GMAT Focus Edition scores would run from 205 to 805, built equally from three sections scored 60 to 90, that fees would match the existing GMAT, and that scores last five years.

GMAC announced the GMAT Focus Edition, an exam nearly an hour shorter with three 45-minute sections, no Analytical Writing Assessment and no Sentence Correction, due to start in late 2023.

GMAC cancelled the GMAT scores of more than 100 people linked to a cheating ring, including proxy test taking, banned them from future testing and told the schools that had their scores.

Candidates in India can now use a valid Aadhaar card instead of a passport to verify identity for the GMAT Online exam. Test centres in India still require a passport.
