Work Zone Safe course
Service Oklahoma, which runs driver licensing in the state, says the course is free and that drivers under 18 must bring its certificate of completion to the drive test. The certificate is required for an intermediate license, so the course sits between the learner permit and the next stage of the graduated license. Students on the parent-taught driver education route must complete it too before their intermediate license test.
Farm Driving Permit
From the same date, teens aged 14 to 17 who live on a farm in Oklahoma, or are employed for pay on one, are eligible to apply for a Farm Driving Permit. It allows them to drive any Class D motor vehicle, with restrictions. Service Oklahoma’s teen driving page links to the details.
The written test
The rest of the process is unchanged. The written exam for a learner permit has 20 questions covering the state’s traffic laws, signs, road rules and safe driving, all drawn from the official Oklahoma Driver Manual. Learner permits and intermediate licenses are not REAL IDs by default, but a REAL ID marking can be added when they are issued if you bring the required documents.
What this means
If you hold an Oklahoma learner permit and are working toward an intermediate license, complete the Work Zone Safe course early and keep the certificate with the documents for your test. If your family farms, ask Service Oklahoma whether the Farm Driving Permit fits your situation and what restrictions apply. Start from the Service Oklahoma teen driving page.
