What happens next
The announcement does not name a paid replacement. It points test takers to the free IELTS preparation resources on ielts.org instead. It does not mention refunds, so anyone holding an unused test at the time needed to contact IELTS directly.
Why it matters
Progress Check was one of the few official ways to get an estimate of your band before booking the real test. Its closure means candidates now rely on free sample materials, official practice books and teacher feedback to judge whether they are ready.
What this means
If you used Progress Check to decide when to book, replace it with timed practice under test conditions using official sample tests, and get your Writing and Speaking checked by a qualified teacher where possible, since those are the hardest skills to self-assess. Download or save any Progress Check results you want to keep before account access ends. When you feel ready, book a date that leaves room for a retake or a One Skill Retake before your deadline. IELTS recommends that results are used within two years, so testing a little earlier than you need can give you useful breathing space before any deadline.
